From 1888 to 1912 there were several breweries operating in the Mount Pleasant area and it was first known as Brewery Creek. With the ability to commute to the city centre by the connecting routes of Main and Kingsway, it quickly became a centre of industry and commercialism and by 1897 there was a substantial population growth of working families to the area. In a sense Mount Pleasant could be called Vancouver’s first suburb!
